Support for Families of Drinkers and Drug Users
Living with drink or drug addiction is not easy; the chaotic emotions and behaviours of the alcoholic or addict brings with it chaos and confusion. This can have a distressing effect on everyone around. We can help family members, friends and work colleagues make the right choices in the best interests of everybody.
It is often the case that a friend or relative of someone who is drinking heavily or dependant upon drugs recognises that this has become a problem long before the person does for themselves. If this is the case with you, please do give us a call and have a chat. At least then you'll come to see that you're not alone and that help is out there. Counselling for families of drinkers and drug users
It is now widely recognised that addiction is an illness that affects not only the primary sufferer but also has knock-on effects on family and close friends. The pain of addiction is felt not only by the sufferer but can be just as severe for those who care for and have relationships with him or her. Without structured help and support during a loved ones' rehabilitation period, you can be left with so many unresolved issues that the potential for relapse and further hurt within the family can be inevitable! Many treatment facilities give help and support allowing family members and friends to have the opportunity to say how they feel about what has been happening in their lives. Furthermore, they will help you look at ways in which you might take more care of yourself and build a healthy relationship with your loved one, once they have graduated from treatment. We believe that the more that family members and close friends can be involved, the better the outcome for the individual. Family programmes can be a very important part of the whole treatment process, and take the form of either "Family Counselling Sessions" - one to one with a single Counsellor, or "Family Groups" - often more powerful and effective, where family members from many current clientele share problems and solutions for dealing with their loved ones. Some facilities offer both of these opportunities.
